Our Story

In March 2019, my brother Matthew Keating (Co-Founder, Executive Vice President) donated a box of non-perishable items to a local food bank here in Waterbury, CT. When my brother made that donation, he saw what a big of an impact it had. When I (Michael Keating) came back from my internship in Orlando, FL, I wanted to follow in my brothers footsteps and help give back to my community in any way that I could. In June 2019, my brother and I officially launched our foundation called “Step by Step: Helping Others One Step At A Time”. With still being broke students, we came up with the idea of raising money to help others in need through bottle and can donations. Our friends and family ran with this idea and in no time they all started to give us their bottles and cans. We would return these recyclables and use that money to give back to local food banks, homeless shelters, and individuals in need in our community. Since June 2019, my brother and I have received over 500,000 Bottles/Cans donations (and counting) and have used that money plus monetary donations and grant money to donate an estimated amount of over $90,000 worth of donations to help individuals in need. Over the 4 years we’ve been very blessed and fortunate to be able to partner with over 25 incredible organizations in the Waterbury area and beyond that helps those in need in their communities. On May 9 2020, Step by Step Foundation Inc., officially became a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. Everybody thinks they have to do something in order to make a difference. However, our mission at Step by Step is to show everyone that you don’t need to do something big in order to make a difference. You can make a difference by just doing something small and helping others One Step At a Time.

Our goal is to serve and provide for others through our love for Jesus Christ. At Step by Step, we feel called to be ministers in our community. To be a minister in your community is to be Christ’s hands and feet by loving others the way he called us to love. Our team strives to emulate this in our hometown of Waterbury, CT every day. Our organization is just a vessel to spread God’s love and service to our local community.

“For Even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many”- Mark 10:45 +
