About Us

In March 2019, Matthew Keating (Co-Founder and Executive Vice President of Step by Step) donated a box of non-perishables to the local food shelter in Waterbury, CT. After witnessing the impact of this donation, older brother Michael Keating (Co-Founder and President of Step by Step) joined his younger brother’s efforts. These simple donations added up over time, giving birth to the launching of the Step by Step Foundation in June 2019.

As college and high school students, the Keating brothers were limited in resources. To counter this limitation, Keatings had the idea of raising money through bottle and can donations. This was the origin of the motto for Step by Step; give what you can, even in the tiniest of increments, and witness the impact it leaves over time. You may think you have nothing to give, but a prayer, a bottle, or a penny has been creating rippling effects since the start of the Step by Step Foundation. Start where you are with what you have, no matter how big or small, and join our movement in helping others one step at a time.

Our Identity

As a Christian-based organization, our goal is to serve and provide for others through our love for Jesus. At Step by Step, we feel called to be ministers in our community. To be a minister is to be Christ-like by being His hands and feet. We strive to emulate this in the poorer areas of our hometown in Waterbury CT. Our organization is just a vessel to spread God’s love and service to our local community. Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

7 Day Prayer Challenge

You may not always have the money or bottle donations to give, but we’d love for you to consider our origination in your prayers. Prayer has been a building block for this foundation, and we would love for you to join us in our 7 Day Prayer Challenge below!
